Dade named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

DALLAS – After scoring the game-winning goals in both of last week's matches, Sasjah Dade has earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, announced the league office on Tuesday. This is Dade's first conference weekly award of her career.

The Ontario, Calif., native, Dade played all 180 minutes of last week's action to be the first Roadrunner to earn a weekly award in the season. Kendall Kloza was the last UTSA defender to earn the weekly accolade on Oct. 5, 2021.

Against Texas A&M-Commerce on Aug. 25, Dade fired off the first and game-winning goal just three minutes into the match, eventually leading the Roadrunners to a 2-0 victory over the Lions. She had eight interceptions in the match and won 88% of her defensive challenges.

On Aug. 28 against Kansas State, Dade helped lead UTSA to its first win over a Power Five opponent in program history. The Roadrunners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead which they carried for nearly 50 minutes before the Wildcats tied it up in the 58th minute. With just over two minutes left in the match, Dade ensured the 2-1 UTSA win as she launched the ball to the left side of the net. Defensively, she notched 11 interceptions against Kansas State and won 78% of her defensive challenges.

On the week, she fired off five total shots, including two on goal which both converted to goals. She led the team in interceptions and defensive challenges in the two matches.
