SAN ANTONIO – UTSA and HBU tied in their first action of the 2022 season, as the two teams sat at zero apiece at the end of regulation following Thursday night's opening contest at Park West.
Though UTSA failed to score, it wasn't due to a lack of offensive pressure. The Roadrunners were constantly pushing the envelope and practically lived on the Huskies' side of the field. After outshooting HBU 6-5 in the first half, UTSA turned the pressure up in the second half.
In the second half, the Roadrunners tallied 21 shots to HBU's two and were unable to find the back of the net. One possession in the 58th minute saw the Roadrunners hammer three shots at the HBU net in a span of 15 seconds but come away empty-handed.
Isa Hernandez led the offensive charge for the Roadrunners as the senior captain had five shots (one on goal) in her 69 minutes of action. Kendall Kloza and Anna Sutter also both played a major role in the offensive aggression, as the two had four shots apiece. Both Kloza and Sutter had two shots on goal as well.
Not to be forgotten, UTSA shut out the Huskies for the third time in its last five games (dating back to last season. Jil Schneider started the match in the net for the Roadrunners and had two tremendous saves in the opening 15 minutes of play. Mia Krusinski was the goalkeeper for the second half and tallied a save of her own, slamming the door on any chances HBU had to score.
