WACO, Texas — UTSA associate head coach and former Rice track & field standout Kareem Streete-Thompson was inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame on Tuesday at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Streete-Thompson was one of eight inductees in the 2022 class honored for their accomplishments during the Southwest Conference era.
A member of the UTSA coaching staff since the 2017 season, Streete-Thompson coaches the Roadrunners' sprinters, jumpers and relays. He has mentored five All-Americans who have combined to earn seven All-America certificates during his tenure.
Additionally, his athletes have collected more than 35 all-conference accolades for top-three individual league finishes, helping lead the UTSA men to a trio of Conference USA runner-up finishes and six third-place showings, while also helping guide the women to a runner-up finish at the 2022 C-USA Outdoor Championships and three third-place efforts in his six years in San Antonio.
A letterman for the Rice program from 1991-95, the Cayman Islands native and Olympian swept the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor titles in the long jump his senior year. He also won seven out of eight Southwest Conference long jump titles in addition to earning 11 All-America certificates. The Rice Athletics Hall of Fame member still holds four Rice program records: indoor 60 meters (6.61), indoor long jump (8.21m), outdoor 100m (10.16-tied) and outdoor long jump (8.63m).
The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame is one of four separate halls of fame housed within the Texas Sports Hall of Fame's physical structure. They include the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and now, the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
