UTSA unveils 2022-23 schedule

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head women's basketball coach Karen Aston on Wednesday unveiled the program's 2022-23 schedule, which is highlighted by a dozen home dates, six non-conference matchups with teams from the state of Texas, a trip to Las Vegas and a 20-game Conference USA slate.

"I am happy to release our 2022-23 schedule," said Aston, who is entering her second season at the helm. "It always feels like basketball is just around the corner when you start to anticipate all of the matchups. We have put together a very challenging, balanced non-conference schedule that I believe will help our players, in particular our newcomers, prepare for Conference USA competition."

The Roadrunners will open their second season under Aston on Nov. 7 when they travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, to face Stephen F. Austin.

UTSA will head north to Fort Worth to face TCU on Nov. 16 before hosting Abilene Christian for the home opener on Nov. 20 at the Convocation Center.

The Roadrunners will fly to Las Vegas to play in the South Point Shootout on Nov. 25-26 in their lone out-of-state non-conference trip. UTSA will meet Mercer at 3:30 p.m. Central time on the opening day of the tournament and then face St. John's at 1 p.m. CT the following day.

"We appreciate our administration supporting us in challenging ourselves in tournaments like the South Point Shootout in Vegas, and giving us a chance to reward them with a trip during Thanksgiving," Aston said.

The I-35 Rivalry will be renewed on Nov. 30 when UTSA makes the short drive to San Marcos to battle Texas State.

UTSA will close out its non-conference home slate on Dec. 10 against Idaho before playing at crosstown foe UIW on Dec. 15. The non-league finale is scheduled for Dec. 19 at Houston.

The Roadrunners will open their final C-USA campaign with back-to-back home games against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 29 and UAB on New Year's Eve before hitting the road to face Middle Tennessee on Jan. 5 and Western Kentucky two days later.

UTEP will visit the Convo on Jan. 11, followed by a home date with Charlotte on Jan. 14.

UTSA then will hit the road for three consecutive games, playing at Rice on Jan. 16, Florida Atlantic on Jan. 19 and FIU on Jan. 21.

The January slate will come to a close with a home contest versus North Texas on Jan. 26 followed by a road matchup with Louisiana Tech on Jan. 28.

The Roadrunners will host Western Kentucky on Feb. 2 and Middle Tennessee two days later before heading to El Paso on Jan. 11 to play UTEP.

The rest of the C-USA docket has UTSA hosting Rice on Feb. 16, Florida Atlantic on Feb. 23 and FIU on Feb. 25, while the Roadrunners will travel to UAB on Feb. 18, North Texas on Feb. 20 and Charlotte on March 2.

"The potential of this team is exciting and I believe our fans will enjoy watching the new players along with seeing the growth of our returners this year," Aston said. "Our program is evolving and I believe a challenging schedule helps you mature quickly. This is our last year in Conference USA and we want to be improved and a challenge for our opponents every time we play them, especially in the confines of the historic Convocation Center."

The C-USA Championship is set for March 8-11 in Frisco, Texas.
