HOUSTON - UTSA rising seniors Camryn Carreon and Hunter Nugent each scored a 3-under-par (68) to tie for second place and advance to the U.S. Women's Amateur on Thursday.
Carreon birdied four of her first 12 holes and recorded an eagle to put her in good standing to finish out the round. The San Antonio native recorded her lone eagle of the day with a three on Hole 8 ,a 497-yard, par-5. Carreon parred her final five holes to score a 68.
Nugent parred her first eight holes to stay even before making the turn. She rounded off her front nine with a birdie on Hole 9. On the back nine, the Oakville, Ontario, native logged three birdies, two of which were back-to-back birdies on Holes 14 and 15. She parred her final three holes to tie for second with Carreon.
The 2022 U.S. Women's Amateur is set for Aug. 8-14 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
