SAN ANTONIO -- Four UTSA men's basketball standouts have earned Academic Honors Court accolades from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, it was announced on Tuesday morning.
Isaiah Addo-Ankrah, Erik Czumbel, Jacob Germany and Adrian Rodriguez were each honored by the NABC. To be eligible for the NABC Honors Court, student-athletes had to be a junior, senior or graduate student and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2+.
A native of Houston, Texas, Addo-Ankrah has a 3.96 cumulative GPA as a sociology major. He became the story of the second half of the year for the Roadrunners after emerging as a top-level 3-point threat. After seeing sparse playing time through the year and as a freshman, Addo-Ankrah exploded late in. the year to sink 36 3-pointers in just 84 attempts, a 42.0 percent clip, while averaging 5.6 points and 1.7 rebounds over 22 games with six starts.
Czumbel, a senior guard out of Verona, Italy, sports a 3.96 cumulative GPA as a business economics major. Czumbel has been a steady presence in the backcourt for the Roadrunners ad is coming off a season that saw him play in all 32 games with 16 starts. He averaged 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, handing out 90 assists to just 37 turnovers.
Germany, a native of Kingston, Okla., finished his junior year with a 3.5 cumulative GPA as a multidisciplinary studies major. An honorable mention All-Conference USA selection in 2021-22, Germany led UTSA with 15.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He has played in 89 games with 66 starts in his first three seasons, averaging 10.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, scoring 923 points and grabbing 531 rebounds, ranking among the tops in program history.
Rodriguez, a native of Tulsa, Okla., is working on his master's degree in mechanical engineering and had a 3.66 GPA in that program. Rodriguez medically retired in 2021-22 after battling injuries throughout his career but played in 71 games with seven starts.
