SAN ANTONIO -- Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, UTSA soccer has released a challenging 18-game schedule, featuring 11 matches at Park West Athletics Complex, it was announced on Friday by head coach Derek Pittman.
"We are really excited about the schedule we've put together for 2022," Pittman said. "It features a great mix of some opportunities to play in front of our home crowd against great teams, while also testing us on the road against teams that will prepare us for Conference USA. A 10-game conference schedule will present some great challenges for our team but we are excited to get back out on the field and start getting ready to take our team to the next level this fall."
The Roadrunners are coming off a historic 2021 season that saw UTSA post a 10-5-4 record that marked the second most wins in program history. UTSA's winning percentage was the best in UTSA history and the Roadrunners won 72 percent of their games at Park West, the top home winning percentage in program annals. UTSA went 3-2-3 in Conference USA for its highest finish in the league table in school history and advanced to the C-USA Tournament, claiming a second win over North Texas in 2021 before falling to the eventual champion Old Dominion.
UTSA returns a bevy of talent from its 2021 record-setting season, including dynamic scorer Anna Sutter, who had seven goals and two assists in her collegiate debut while playing in just 13 matches. Alissa Stewart returns with five assists and two goals, while Isa Hernandez and Kendall Kloza – who each had three goals – return. Sarina Russ had a goal and four helpers, while Kiran Singh and Deja Sandoval each chipped in two goals in 2021. In goal, UTSA senior Jil Schneider had a 0.79 goals-against average in 2021 with 52 saves, a program-record eight shutouts and 10 wins.
Overall, UTSA returns 85.7 percent of its goals, 72.4 percent of its assists, 83 percent of its shots and 100 percent of its saves from the historic 2021 season.
