Carey honored among most influential mid-major coaches in women’s hoops

SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA women's basketball associate head coach Jamie Carey has been named one of the 74 most influential assistant coaches in mid-major women's collegiate basketball by Silver Waves Media. 
 
Carey is in her second year on the staff of Coach Karen Aston with the Roadrunners. She joined the staff after serving as the associate head coach at North Texas in 2020-21, while also working with Aston at Texas from 2014-20, serving as the assistant coach from 2016-18 before moving into the associate head coach role the final two years in Austin. 
 
Carey works directly with UTSA's guards while helping coordinate the offensive attack and recruiting efforts. 
 
Carey has also served as an assistant coach at Colorado, spent four years as the assistant women's national team director with USA Basketball, and serving as the head coach at Colorado High Schools, including Sand Creek and Legacy High School. 
 
Carey was a decorated standout at Texas, where she exited her career ranking 43rd in program history with 1,074 points, earning a pair of All Big-12 selections and setting the school standard with a 41.8 percent clip from 3-point range. She opened her career at Stanford, winning Pac-10 Conference Freshman of the Year honors, before transferring to Texas. 
 
The former 1999 Miss Colorado High School Basketball selection, she was picked 31st overall in the 2005 WNBA Draft and played four years with the Connecticut Sun. 
 
Carey earned her bachelor's from Texas in 2004 and a master's from Texas in 2006.
