Sidney Love tabbed Alamo City High School Girls Player of the Year

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA women's basketball signee Sidney Love has been tabbed the Alamo City Girls Basketball Player of the Year by the San Antonio Express-News, it was announced on Wednesday night at the Alamo City High School Sports Awards.

Love, a star at Steele High School for the last four years, earned the honors as San Antonio's top prep girls basketball player by the Express-News. She averaged 23 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and six steals as a senior, while earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A All-Star honors.

"I am thrilled to see that Sid has been recognized in this manner, especially alongside the other players being honored," UTSA head coach Karen Aston said. She was a game changer for the Steele program and I know that she is driven to do the same as a Roadrunner. Sid is a great example of the type of student-athletes who have shined in our community that we want to keep at home playing for the Roadrunners. She is helping lay the foundation for the future of our program, a program that is proud to embrace our community and the standout student-athletes who play here. We can't wait to get her on the floor for us and help her continue to develop."

A four-year letterwinner for Coach Jeffrey Chatman at powerhouse Steele High School, Love was the 2021-22 Co-District MVP and a McDonald's All-America nominee, while also earning Express-News Player of the Week accolades during her senior season. A 1,300 point scorer in her career, she was named District Defensive MVP as a junior, All-District and earned TGCA All-Star honors.

Love is part of an eight-member signing class for the 2022-23 season, including Nissa Sam-Grant, a transfer from Panola College and Arkansas Pine Bluff, Brandeis High School standout Alexis Parker, Southern Cal transfer and 2021-22 Pac-12 Most Improved Player Jordyn Jenkins, and fellow USC transfer and Converse native Kyra White.
