SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team dropped a 6-4 decision to FIU Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
The Panthers were on the board early with two runs in the second.
In the third, FIU tacked on another run to lead 3-0. In the bottom of the frame, Ciarra Mata opened with a walk and Kat Ibarra followed with a single up the middle. Camryn Robillard also earned a walk to load the bases. With one out, Marena Estell reached on an error as Mata scored (2-1). Erykah Guerrero hit a sac fly to score Ibarra and make it a one-run game, 3-2.
The Panthers scored two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead (5-3). With one out on the board, Robillard hit a solo home run to left center to bridge the gap back to two (5-3). Marena Estell also hit a solo homer when she smacked the ball over the center field wall to trail 5-4.
FIU scored its final run of the game in the top of the sixth from a sac fly.
Alexa Williams started in the circle, pitching two innings with two strikeouts. Tatum Seith came in for the final five innings.
The Roadrunners finished the regular season 18-29 overall and 11-12 in conference. UTSA will return to the field on Wednesday at the 2022 Conference USA Championship in Denton, Texas.
