No. 8 seed UTSA set to face No. 5-seeded FAU in C-USA Championship

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team earned the No. 8 seed in the 2022 Conference USA Championship and will take on No. 5 seeded Florida Atlantic on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium in Denton, Texas.
 
Scouting UTSA
UTSA enters the tournament 18-29 overall and 11-12 in conference games after finishing up the regular-season with a 2-1 series win over FIU.
 
Kat Ibarra continues to lead the team with a .327 batting average. She has 49 hits, four doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 21 RBIs on the season. Marena Estell is still on top with 14 home runs and a 3.32 ERA. The senior has pitched 86.1 inning with 46 strikeouts.
 
Scouting FAU
FAU comes into the tournament 28-24 overall and 15-9 in C-USA games after falling to Charlotte 2-1 in the series.
 
Sara Berthiaume leads the team with a .387 batting average. She has 60 hits, 10 doubles, seven triples, four home runs and 33 RBIs this season. Lynn Gardner leads in the circle with a 2.46 ERA, pitching 170.2 innings with 119 strikeouts.

Tournament History
This is the fifth time the Roadrunners have qualified for the Conference USA Championship.
 
The last time UTSA qualified for the conference tournament was in 2021 when it defeated No. 5 Middle Tennessee 4-2 in the first round, then dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to No. 4 WKU.
