SAN ANTONIO – Erykah Guerrero hit a walk-off grand slam to help the Roadrunners defeat FIU 8-0 in six innings to take game one of the series Friday night at Roadrunner Field.
UTSA was on the board early with a run in the first. With one on and two outs, Marena Estell doubled to left field as Camryn Robillard reached home to lead 1-0.
In the fifth, the Roadrunners tacked another run from a solo homer off the bat of Robillard to lead 2-0.
With one out, Kaitlyn Morado earned a walk in the bottom of the sixth. Ciarra Mara followed with a single to center field. Robillard reached on an error as Morado and Mata scored to extend the lead to four. Riley Grunberg singled to left field as Robillard reached scoring position. Estell also earned a walk to load the bases. With two outs on the board, Guerrero smacked the ball over the center field wall for a grand slam to clinch the game.
Estell pitched all six innings, with two strikeouts.
UTSA recorded eight hits on the day.
The Roadrunners and the Panthers return to the field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
