SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team dropped a 6-5 decision to North Texas, tying the series, Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners were on the board early with runs on the first. With one out, Camryn Robillard reached on an error. Marena Estell stepped up and smacked the ball over the center field wall to take an early 2-0 lead. Emily Dear singled, but a ground out ended the inning.
North Texas gained the lead from a three-run homer (3-2) in the top of the second. In the bottom of the frame, Lauren Coerver earned a walk with one out on the board. Kat Ibarra doubled to right center, then advanced to third as Coerver scored to tie the game 3-3. Ibarra then reached home on a passed ball to regain the lead, 4-3.
The Mean Green scored a run in the top of the third to tie the game once again (4-4).
In the fifth, North Texas added another run to lead 5-4.
The Mean Green scored one more run in the seventh to extend the lead to two, 6-4.
Jamie Gilbert earned the start, pitching three inning with four strikeouts. Alexa Williams came in for the final three innings and also recorded four strikeouts.
UTSA had five hits on the day.
The Roadrunners and the Mean Green return to the field tomorrow at 1 p.m. to wrap up the series.
