SAN ANTONIO- Five-consecutive singles wins fueled a 5-2 win for the UTSA women's tennis team over New Mexico State on Friday morning.
The Aggies won the doubles point to start the match 1-0. Alexandra Weir and Eva Beyebach dropped a 6-1 match to their opponents at No. 3. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Stanislava Bobrovnikova won their match 6-4 against their opponents in the No. 2 spot. At No. 1, Jasmin Starr and Sophie Omoworare lost a close 6-4 match to their opponents.
The Roadrunners swept New Mexico State in singles play to win the match. After clenching a 7-5 first set at No. 1, Zlatarova won her match with a 6-2 second set. Splitting the first two sets at No. 2, Starr dropped the first set 6-3 and won the second 6-2, she claimed the match with a 7-5 tiebreaker. At No. 3, Weir pushed her opponent to a 7-6 (3), 7-5 match for a third UTSA win. Bobrovnikova defeated her opponent 7-6 (8) in the first set and 6-3 in the second. Beyebach rounded out singles play for UTSA with a three-set match. After claiming the first set 6-4, she dropped a 6-1 second. Beyebach finished with a 7-6 (6) win in the third set to close the match 5-2 for UTSA.
The Roadrunners will return to the UTSA Tennis Center on Sunday morning to host Lamar at 11 a.m.
