UTSA set for The Aggie Invitational this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's golf team will travel to Bryan, Texas, to play in The Aggie Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, April 9-10, at Traditions Golf Club (par 72/7,227 yards).

The Roadrunners will compete against No. 10 Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Kent State, No. 43 Little Rock, No. 40 Louisville, No. 32 New Mexico, North Texas, Northern Illinois, No. 23 Texas A&M and No. 7 Texas Tech in the 54-hole, stroke-play event. The field will play 36 holes on Saturday and the final round is slated for Sunday.

UTSA is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic earlier this week in Chandler, Ariz. The Roadrunners entered the final round in 17th place but recorded a 15-under 273 — the fourth-best team score in program history — to move all the way into sole possession of eighth in the 25-team field with an 11-under 853.

Individually, Michael Rome fired an 8-under-par 208 that featured a 7-under 65 in the opening round to tie for 11th place, the fifth top-15 finish of his senior season. Christian Fanfelle matched his 65 in the final round to help lead the Roadrunners to their jump up the team standings.

On the season, Fanfelle paces UTSA with a 72.54 stroke average with Rome hot on his heels at 72.69. Hunter Bott stands third with a 73.54 mark.

The Aggie Invitational will mark the final tune-up for the Roadrunners before the Conference USA Championship on April 25-28 in Texarkana, Ark. This will be UTSA's seventh appearance in Texas A&M's annual home tournament, including an 11th-place showing last year.
