BOCA RATON, Fla. – The UTSA softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to Florida Atlantic Friday evening in game one of the series.
After a 30 minute delayed start, followed by a 35 minute rain delay, the game remained scoreless through three innings as the Roadrunners left two on and the Owls one.
FAU got on the board in the bottom of the third from a two-RBI triple to lead 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Owls added two more runs from two hits to extend the lead to four.
Florida Atlantic clinched the game in the fifth. With one on, the Owls scored a single run to lead 5-0. With runners on second and third, FAU hit a three-run homer to lead 8-0 and end the game.
Jamie Gilbert pitched all 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.
Erykah Guerrero had the two hits for UTSA.
The Roadrunners and the Owls return to the field tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT.
