Roadrunners to head to West Coast for Mt. SAC Relays

SAN ANTONIO — More than 20 members of the UTSA track & field teams will travel to the West Coast for the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.

The Roadrunners will line up against athletes from multiple teams across the country in the 62nd running of one of the nation's top annual collegiate meets.

Thursday action for UTSA will get underway at 2 p.m. CT with the women's shot put featuring Lacee Barnes, who will turn around and compete in the discus at 5:30 p.m. Maddie Boswell is slated to race in the Elite Division of the women's 10,000 meters at 9:50 p.m. CT Thursday. The meet will continue on Friday and Saturday.

UTSA won a pair of events at last weekend's 44 Farms Team Invitational in College Station, Texas.

Alanah Yukich set a meet record in the women's 400-meter hurdles on Friday night, clocking a time of 58.80 seconds to eclipse the previous meet standard of 58.84 set by former teammate Faith Roberson one year ago. The junior from Perth, Australia, was in second place in her section entering the final straightaway, but she overtook Baylor's Gontse Morake (59.06) down the stretch to earn the gold medal and secure her second collegiate victory in the event. The 2021 NCAA West Preliminary Round qualifier was tabbed Conference USA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for her performance.

On Saturday night, Bashiru Abdullahi crossed the finish line first in the men's 110-meter hurdles for this third win of the calendar year. The junior from Benin City, Nigeria, raced to a time of 13.75 seconds with a 4.0 meters-per-second tailwind to beat Texas A&M's Connor Schulman (13.84) to the tape. The two-time Conference USA Indoor 60m hurdles champion now has broken 14 seconds in all three races in the event this outdoor season.
