DALLAS — UTSA junior Alanah Yukich has been named the Conference USA Outdoor Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Yukich broke a meet record on Friday night at the 44 Farms Team Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. The Perth, Australia, native raced to a time of 58.80 seconds to win the race and eclipse the previous meet standard of 58.84 set by former teammate Faith Roberson one year ago. She was in second place in her section entering the final straightaway, but the 2021 NCAA West Preliminary Round qualifier overtook Baylor's Gontse Morake (59.06) down the stretch to earn the gold medal and secure her second collegiate victory in the event. Yukich, a C-USA Winter Sports Spirit of Service Award winner, currently leads C-USA and ranks 20th in the nation in the event.
UTSA now boasts seven weekly awards in 2022. Ingeborg Gruenwald garnered back-to-back C-USA Indoor Women's Field Athlete of the Week certificates and Bashiru Abdullahi was tabbed C-USA Indoor Men's Track Athlete of the Week in January, while Trevion McCalla, Jemuel Miller and Grant Szalek all were honored in March during the outdoor campaign. This marks the second career C-USA Athlete of the Week honor for Yukich, who collected the award last April.
UTSA will travel to the West Coast for the Mt. SAC Relays this Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16, in Walnut, Calif.
