BRYAN, Texas — Michael Rome is in the top 20 individuals and the UTSA men's golf team is in 11th place after the opening day of The Aggie Invitational, which got underway Saturday at Traditions Golf Club (par 72/7,227 yards).
The event was scheduled for 36 holes on Saturday, but the second round was suspended due to darkness with approximately half of the field still on the course. Play will resume at 7:30 a.m. Sunday followed immediately by the final 18 holes.
Rome is in a tie for 16th at 6-over par with four holes left to play in his second round. The senior out of Austin Westlake High School carded a 77 in the first round on the strength of a pair of birdies. He is 1-over in the second round after posting two more birdies, three shots out of the top 10 individuals.
Jack Wehman has a share of 34th place at 10-over, as the freshman from Austin posted a 78 in the first round and is plus-four with a pair of holes remaining in his second 18.
Hunter Bott is part of a five-way deadlock for 42nd at 12-over. The junior from Montgomery led the Roadrunners in the opening round with a 76 that featured two birdies and he unofficially registered an 80 in his second round.
David Harrison is in a tie for 56th at 15-over, as he turned in a 78 in the morning and an 81 for his afternoon round behind a total of five birdies through 36 holes.
Christian Fanfelle is in 75th at (84-85—169), while Reed Foster is in a tie for 71st (81-82—163) while competing as an individual.
UTSA is in 11th place, 14 strokes in front of Northern Illinois and only five back of Baylor and 11 behind No. 43 Little Rock.
No. 23 Texas A&M leads the team standings at 6-over behind individual leader Walker Lee (-3). No. 10 Arkansas is second (+15), followed by seventh-ranked Texas Tech (+18), No. 32 New Mexico (+21) and Houston (+21).
