UTSA set to host cross-town foe UIW

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA (9-2) will welcome cross-town foe Incarnate Word (4-4) for a weekday game tomorrow, March 8 at 6 p.m.

The two schools will be meeting for the 27th time when they play on Tuesday. UTSA holds the all-time advantage against the fellow San Antonio school, posting a 15-11 record. The Roadrunners are 10-6 in home games against the Cardinals.

UTSA enters Tuesday's game coming off of a weekend series win against the preseason SWAC favorite Southern Jaguars.

The series began Friday night when UTSA had senior Jacob Jimenez on the mound. Jimenez went for five innings and struck out five to earn his second victory on the year. On the offensive side, UTSA got homeruns from four different Roadrunners which propelled the team to win 15-4.

In Saturday's tilt, UTSA saw its six-game win streak snapped by the Jaguars, as the Roadrunners weren't able to replicate Friday's offensive performance losing 11-4.

Come Sunday's rubber match, UTSA struck back with a vengeance, as the Roadrunners again put up 15 runs against the Jaguars. Four Roadrunners combined to hit five homeruns on Sunday to fuel the offensive explosion and lead UTSA to a 15-7 win which clinched the weekend series 2-1.

UIW comes into Tuesday's contest with a 4-4 record and boasts a win over Houston from their past weekend series. Both UTSA and UIW have one common opponent on the year in Tarleton State. UTSA won their weekend series against the Texans 2-1 and outscored TSU 34-25 in the series. UIW faced Tarleton immediately following UTSA's opening series in a weekday game and fell to the Texans 1-0.
