SAN ANTONIO – UTSA junior RHP Daniel Shafer has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for the week of 2/28-3/6.
The Willis, Texas native made two appearances in four games for the Roadrunners, pitching for 4.0 innings on the week. Shafer allowed no hits, no runs and struck out seven of the 15 batters he faced while walking two across his two appearances as a late-inning reliever.
In his first outing, he helped lead UTSA to an upset victory over then No. 2 Stanford by tossing two scoreless/hitless innings against the potent Cardinal offense. In Shafer's seven batter's faced, he struck out four and walked one.
In Shafer's second appearance of the week, the junior righthander threw another hitless/scoreless two innings. In those two innings, Shafer faced eight batters, striking out three and walking one to help UTSA beat preseason SWAC favorite Southern 15-7.
On the year in total, Shafer has appeared in 6.2 innings. Over that span, he has allowed just two hits and has struck out 11 batters.
