Fanfelle’s career round highlights Thursday action at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. — Christian Fanfelle fired a 5-under-par 67 to highlight action for the UTSA men's golf team on the second day of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Thursday at the Classic Club (par 72/7,305 yards).

Fanfelle registered seven birdies to match the best round of his UTSA career and help the Roadrunners move up four spots in the team standings after 36 holes of the three-day tournament. The 67 was his 11th sub-70 round as a Roadrunner and moved the San Antonio native into a tie for 21st in the 114-man field at even-par 144. It also equaled Nevada's AJ Lintunen for the low round of the 54-hole event so far.

Meanwhile, Michael Rome posted four birdies en route to a 1-under 71, his second straight par-or-better scorecard. The Austin Westlake High School product leads all Roadrunners at 1-under 143, good for a share of 15th place with the final round looming on Friday.

Behind the red numbers recorded by Fanfelle and Rome, UTSA turned in a 1-under 287 in the second round to jump from 15th to a tie with Cal State Northridge for 11th at 11-over 587, three strokes in front of Oral Roberts and only four shy of Texas State in the 20-team field.

Jack Wehman shot a 2-over 74 behind a trio of birdies and is now in a tie for 65th at 6-over 150.

David Harrison also logged three birdies, firing a 3-over 75 to also move into a tie for 65th, while Hunter Bott rounds out the UTSA lineup in 103rd (80-77—157).

No. 45 Nevada has the 36-hole lead at 9-under 567, followed by Charlotte (569), Long Beach State (575), No. 49 Boise State (577) and New Mexico State (577).

Nevada's Quim Vidal Mora has a one-shot advantage in the individual race at 6-under 138.

The final round is slated for a 10 a.m. CT shotgun start on Friday.
