UTSA returns home for showdown with No. 23 Charlotte

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA's baseball team will return home this weekend to face the newly-minted #23 ranked Charlotte 49ers in a weekend Conference USA series.

The series will be played over the April 1 weekend and features the C-USA preseason No. 4 team, Charlotte. The 49ers (17-7, 4-2 C-USA), were voted two spots higher than UTSA (15-10, 2-4 C-USA) in the preseason poll.

The two squads share no common opponents, but Charlotte is coming off of a weekend series where they visited C-USA preseason favorite (and No. 18 ranked) Old Dominion and took two of three against the Monarchs, losing the only game in extras by one run.

This will be the eighth series between the two schools with the Roadrunners holding a 4-3 series advantage. The 49ers however hold the head-to-head advantage over UTSA 11-10. The Roadrunners are 3-5 against Charlotte in games played in San Antonio.

UTSA enters the weekend series coming off of back-to-back midweek victories at both UIW and #11 TCU. The Roadrunners needed extra to take town UIW, 6-5 while the offense exploded at #11 TCU and the Roadrunners won 12-8.

The 49ers enter the weekend series boasting the third-best record in the conference as well as a weekday victory over the College of Charleston where Charlotte won 9-0.
