Roadrunners top Islanders 9-3 on Tuesday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The UTSA softball team defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 9-3 Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Islanders took an early lead in the bottom of the second with a single with bases loaded.
 
A home run off the bat of Camryn Robillard scored Kat Ibarra and Kaitlyn Morado at the top of the third as UTSA took a two-run lead (3-1).
 
Both teams were scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings before the Roadrunners used a five-run sixth inning to increase their lead. With bases loaded and two outs, Riley Grunberg singled up the middle to score Ibarra and Morado (5-1). Ciarra Mata reached first on an error before advancing to third, scoring Grunberg and Robillard as UTSA took a 7-1 lead. Mata crossed home for an unearned run to close the sixth (8-1).
 
At the top of the seventh, Caylee Driskill advanced to second after reaching on an error. Morado stepped to the plate and singled to right center as Driskill crossed home plate for an eight-point lead, 9-1. The Islanders scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to close the game down six (9-3).
 
Kloey Harlson got the start in the circle against TAMUCC. Harlson pitched two innings with one strikeout. Alexa Williams pitched one inning allowing no hits. Jamie Gilbert pitched one inning before Marena Estell came into the circle for two innings. Tatum Seith finished the game pitching for the Roadrunners. Seith pitched one inning.
 
UTSA recorded 12 hits on the afternoon with Grunberg leading with three. Morado and Robillard both recorded two hits. Emily Johnson, Ibarra, Estell, Erykah Guerrero and Mata each had one hit.
 
The Roadrunners return to the field on March 30 at Roadrunner Field to host Texas State at 6 p.m.
