SAN ANTONIO — Several members of the UTSA track & field teams will make the short trip to Austin for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which will be held on Wednesday-=Saturday, March 23-26, at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Roadrunners will begin their week with Joel McFarlane and Jack Turner competing in the decathlon starting on Wednesday and continuing Thursday. UTSA also has athletes scheduled for competition on Thursday-Saturday.
Longhorn Network will provide television coverage of the meet tape-delayed at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and live at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
The Roadrunners are coming off a strong showing at the outdoor season-opening UTSA Invitational last weekend. UTSA captured 13 gold medals and earned 29 podium finishes during the two-day meet including a record-setting performance in the men's 4x100-meter relay. Dennis Phillips, Diego Pettorossi, Trevion McCalla and Jose Garcia clocked a 39.34 to break the school and meet records, and that time currently ranks third in the nation behind Houston and Ohio State.
McCalla also sped to a meet record 20.99 in the 200m and earned Conference USA Men's Track Athlete of the Week accolades for his performance.
Meanwhile, Grant Szalek made it a sweep of the C-USA men's weekly awards after winning the triple jump with a mark of 15.63 meters (51-3.5), which matches his personal best and ranks fifth nationally.
For the women, Sigrid Kleive won the high jump with a 1.67m (5-5.75) clearance and took top honors in the javelin with a throw of 44.29m (145-3), while Thennelle Williams raced to gold in the 200m in 24.56 and joined Ibiso David-West, Geraldy Barron and Vera Chinedu to win the 4x1 in 46.08.
