Roadrunners defeat Huskies by eight

HOUSTON – The UTSA softball team defeated HBU 9-1 Tuesday afternoon
 
Camryn Robillard earned a walk with one out and Riley Grunberg reached on an error as runners advanced to reach scoring position. Sophie Campbell also earned a walk to advance runners and load the bases. Emily Dear followed with a walk ass runners advanced and Robillard scored to lead 1-0. Lauren Coerver stepped up and singled up the middle to score Grunberg and push the lead to two. With the bases still loaded, runners advanced on a passed ball as Campbell reached home to lead 3-0. Kailyn Morado reached on a fielder's choice as Dear scored to extend the lead to four. A flyout and s ground out ended the inning.
 
In the fifth, the Roadrunners scored four more runs to extend the lead. With one out, Kaitlyn Morado reached on an error and Caylee Driskill followed with a walk. Ciarra Mata singled to center as runners advanced and the bases were loaded. Kat Ibarra singled through the right side as Morado scored to lead 5-1. With two outs and bases loaded, Grunberg earned a walk as Driskill scored to increase the lead to five (6-1). Sophie Campbell came in a doubled down the right line to score Mata and Ibarra as the Roadrunners led 8-1.
 
In the seventh, Ibarra singled to center field to open the inning. Robillard had a flyout as Ibarra advanced to second. With two outs, Campbell singled to right field once again as Ibarra scored to lead 9-1.
 
Tatum Seith earned the start, pitching four innings and Jamie Gilbert came in for the final three innings.
 
UTSA recorded nine hits on the day with Ibarra, Campbell and Mata each recording two.
 
The Roadrunners return to action this weekend at the Boerner Invitational in Arlington.
