Roadrunners fall to 49ers in game one

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team dropped an 11-4 decision to Charlotte Friday evening in game one of the series at Roadrunner Field.
 
The 49ers gained an early lead with four runs from four hits in the top of the first.
 
In the bottom of the third, Camryn Robillard put the Roadrunners on the board with a solo home run to trail 4-1.
 
UTSA added two more runs in the fourth to make it a one-run game. Sophie Campbell opened with a double to left field and Erykah Guerrero followed with a single up the middle as Campbell advanced to third. Emily Dear also doubled to left field as runners advanced and Campbell scored (4-2). With runners on first and third, Lauren Coerver earned a walk to load the bases. Kaitlyn Morado reached on a fielder's choice as Guerrero was tagged out at home. Kat Ibarra stepped up and hit a sac fly to score Dear and trail 4-3. Robillard also reached on a fielder's choice as Coerver was tagged out at third to end the inning.
 
Charlotte added four more runs in the fifth from two hits, including a three run homer, to extend the lead (8-3). In the bottom of the frame. Riley Grunberg hit her fifth home run of the season to bridge the gap back to four (8-4).
 
The 49ers scored a single run in the sixth and two in the seventh to clinch the game.
 
Marena Estell earned the start, pitching 2.0 innings with one strikeout. Tatum Seith came in for the final five innings and recorded two strikeouts.
 
UTSA posted 10 hits on the day.
 
The Roadrunners and the 49erss return to the field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
