Roadrunners set records on Monday at Paradise Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. — The UTSA women's golf team broke the school record for low team round on the strength of Hunter Nugent's program record-tying 66 on Monday at the Paradise Invitational at Osprey Point Golf Club (par 72/6,204 yards).

Fog delayed the start of the first round on Monday morning and the field did not finish the second round before darkness set in. Play will resume at 6:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday followed immediately by the third round.

The Roadrunners carded an 11-under-par 277 in the opening round behind Nugent's 6-under scorecard and Camryn Carreon's 3-under 69. Hannah Holzmann and Nicole Polivchak also turned in red numbers with a pair of 1-under 71s to help UTSA smash the previous program standard for low team round of 7-under 281 done three times previously, the last at the 2021 Texas State Invitational.

Nugent's 6-under 66 matched the UTSA standard established by Paola Valerio at the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. The junior transfer recorded seven birdies against only one bogey en route to posting her third sub-70 round of the season. In the unfinished afternoon round, the Canadian is 1-over par through 15 holes and stands in a tie for eighth place at minus-five.

Meanwhile, Carreon wrote down five birdies as part of a season-best 69, the 10th par-or-better round of her UTSA career. The San Antonio native also stands 1 over through 15 holes in the second round and has a share of 17th place (-2).

Holzmann had four birdies in her opening-round 71 and has added six more through the first 15 holes of the second round to put the San Antonio native at even par and in a tie for 21st for the tournament.

Polivchak also matched Holzmann by circling four numbers in the first round and the super senior is in 38th at 2 over with three holes remaining in her second round.

Ana Gonzalez rounds out the UTSA lineup one shot back in a tie for 46th (+3) after posting a 74 in the morning. The four-time all-conference performer is plus-one through 15 holes in round two.

The Roadrunners were in second place after logging the school-record 277, four shots behind Mississippi State's 273, and unofficially sit in fifth place (-8) with the final three holes in the second round yet to be posted. UTSA is only one shot behind Missouri (-9) and 12 strokes behind the Bulldogs (-20) in the 15-team field.

In other action, Katia Mexsen and Morgan Ellison are playing as individuals at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle. Mexsen, a senior from Mexico, is in 29th (+10) after posting a 1-over 73 that featured four birdies in the second round. Ellison, a freshman from Georgia, is one shot behind in a tie for 30th with a 77-78—155. The final round of that event is slated for Tuesday.
