UTSA to tee off spring season on Monday in Florida

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's golf team will tee off the spring season on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 7-8, at the Paradise Invitational, which will be hosted by Florida Atlantic at Osprey Point Golf Club (par 72/6,204 yards) in Boca Raton, Fla.
 
The Roadrunners will compete against the host Owls, Arkansas State, Colorado State, FIU, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, James Madison, Loyola Chicago, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Florida, Seton Hall, USF and Vanderbilt. The two-day event will get underway with a 7 a.m. CT shotgun start on Monday for 36 holes and the final round is slated for Tuesday. 

Additionally, Morgan Ellison and Katia Mexsen will make the short trip north to Kyle, Texas, to participate as individuals in the Texas State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Club.
 
In their fifth season under the direction of two-time Conference USA Coach of the Year Summer Batiste, the Roadrunners played in four tournaments last fall with a top finish of third at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Tennessee. 
 
Individually, junior transfer Hunter Nugent led UTSA with a 72.8 stroke average in 12 rounds and the Canadian registered a pair of 67s during the fall. Ana Gonzalez, a super senior who has earned four all-conference certificates and is the program's career scoring leader at 73.78, ranked second on the squad with a 73.1 mark in the fall and finished the season with a ninth-place showing at the Dale McNamara Invitational.
