SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's basketball will face off with first-place North Texas in the first of two home games to conclude the regular-season this week, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Lincoln Rose (play-by-play), LaDarrin McLane (analyst) and Jazz Wormley (sideline) and Ticket 760 AM, with the Voice of the Roadrunners, Andy Everett (play-by-play) and Tim Carter (analyst) calling the action.
UTSA (9-20, 2-14 Conference USA) will face North Texas on Thursday before concluding the regular-season slate with Rice on Saturday. The Roadrunners will then face Southern Miss on Tuesday in the first round of the Conference USA Championship, held at The Star in Frisco.
The Roadrunners are coming off a one-game week last week that saw 20-win UAB post a 68-56 win over UTSA on Thursday.
UTSA averages 67.6 points, 39.1 rebounds, 11.4 assists, 5.8 steals and 2.7 blocks per game as a team, shooting 39 percent from the field and 29.1 percent from deep. Opponents are scoring 73 points per game, shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 36 percent from 3-point range.
UTSA is led in scoring by junior center Jacob Germany, who averages 14.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, shooting 48 percent from the field and 71.8 percent from the line. Junior guard Dhieu Deing averages 14.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while senior guard Darius McNeill chips in 6.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per outing. Sophomore guard Isaiah Addo-Ankrah has shot 41.2 percent from deep and averages 5.1 points per game.
North Texas (22-4, 15-1 C-USA) enters the matchup having won 14 consecutive games, including a sweep at home vs. Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech last week. The Mean Green last lost vs. UAB on Jan. 6 in Denton, their lone loss in conference play this year.
UNT averages 66 points per game, shooting 44.7 from the field and 37.1 percent from deep, also averaging 33.7 rebounds, 11.3 assists, 7.0 steals and 2.8 blocks per game. The Mean Green play the slowest pace in college basketball – ranking 358 out of 358 D1 teams in pace of play.
The Mean Green are led by guard Tylor Perry, who averages a club-high 13.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Thomas Bell averages 12.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, with Abou Ousmane sporting 10.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Mardrez McBride averages 10.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, with Rubin Jones chipping in 8.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
North Texas leads the all-time series with UTSA 18-12 with the series tied 8-8 in games played in San Antonio. The teams split the meetings in San Antonio last year, with UTSA claiming the finale, 77-69 behind an explosive outing from Jhivvan Jackson. In the meeting earlier in 2021-22, North Texas won, 69-45 in Denton.
