UTSA to host fourth-ranked Stanford Cardinal

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA (6-1) is set to host the fourth-ranked Stanford Cardinal (6-1) tomorrow, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.

UTSA enters Monday's tilt against top-5 Stanford coming off of a four-game sweep of the Seattle Redhawks where UTSA outscored Seattle 34-5 across three days and four games.

UTSA received solid outings this weekend from starting pitchers Luke Malone (7.1 IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 7SO) and freshman Braden Davis (6 IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 6SO).

On the offensive side of things, second baseman Leyton Barry led the way as he had a .500 BA in the series. Of his eight hits, two were for extra bases and he had two RBI across the four games. Barry also is currently carrying a ten-game hitting streak that dates back to last season.

The Cardinal will be the highest-ranked team in any sport to ever play on UTSA's campus in the modern era (since 2006).

Stanford (6-1) is entering Monday's game after participating in the Karbach Round Rock Classic, which is hosted in Round Rock Texas. There, the Cardinal defeated Louisiana 5-0 on Friday and on Sunday played a doubleheader against Indiana and #2 Arkansas. Stanford defeated Indiana in the first game of the Sunday doubleheader, 13-0. In the second game of their doubleheader, Stanford defeated #2 Arkansas 5-0.

Last year, the Cardinal went 39-17 and were one of the 12 best teams in the land, as they made their 17th appearance at the College World Series.

Stanford boasts plenty of talent, as OF Brock Jones and C Kody Huff are considered two of the top prospects in all of college baseball.
