Malone's pitching leads UTSA to 3-2 win over Seattle
Roadrunners sweep doubleheader action on Friday
 
SAN ANTONIO – UTSA (4-1) defeated Seattle University (1-5) in the second game of a doubleheader Friday night, winning 3-2.
 
Luke Malone (1-0) set the tone for the Roadrunners as he went for 7.1 innings allowing only three hits and one run while striking out seven. Malone's gem was complimented by seven Roadrunner hits, each by different players, and four went for extra bases.
 
In the bottom of the second, catcher Sammy Diaz singled up the middle to plate Leyton Barry to put the Roadrunners on top early, 1-0. Later, in the seventh inning, UTSA was able to add two insurance runs via an Austin Ochoa 2RBI double, making the score 3-0.
 
In relief of Malone, UTSA trotted out both Allen Smith and Daniel Shafer who were able to keep the Redhawks at bay and maintain a UTSA victory. Shafer earned a save for his contributions.
 
Seattle pitcher Peter Chronowski suffered his second loss on the season, as he allowed four hits and a run through six innings of pitching.

The Roadrunners will play the third game of their home-opening series against Seattle tomorrow, Feb. 26, at 12 p.m. UTSA is set to start So., RHP Uli Quiroga, while the Redhawks will send RHP Brady Liddle to the mound. The game will be streamed on CUSAtv.
