SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team returns to the Convocation Center for a two-game series this weekend when it hosts Rice on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. and North Texas on Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
The Roadrunners come into the week 5-15 overall and 2-7 in conference after a 49-44 road win at Florida Atlantic. UTSA went 8-0 to open the game and held on to the lead for all four quarters. Hailey Atwood led the team in scoring with nine points and eight rebounds. Elyssa Coleman followed suit with seven points and seven rebounds.
Lapraisjah Johnson leads the Roadrunners in scoring this season with 182 points, averaging 9.1 points per game. Queen Ulabo now leads UTSA in rebounding with 106 boards, 59 defensive and 47 offensive. Jadyn Pimentel has a team-leading 55 steals and 48 assists this season. Elyssa Coleman defends the basket with a season-high 19 blocks.
Scouting Rice
The Owls enter the Convocation Center 6-9 overall and 1-6 in C-USA action following a 78-55 loss to Southern Miss on Jan. 29. Ashlee Austin leads the team averaging 16 points per game. Malia Fisher leads Rice in the paint with 118 rebounds, 37 offensive and 81 defensive. Fisher has a season-high 23 blocks. Destiny Jackson has recorded a team-high 48 assists and 23 steals.
Scouting North Texas
The Mean Green come to Alamo City 8-9 after a 72-60 loss to Louisiana Tech on Jan. 29. Quincy Noble leads North Texas in scoring with 268 point this season, averaging 15.8 points per game. She has a team-leading 13 blocks this season. Madison Townley is a presence in the paint for the Mean Green with 128 rebounds, grabbing 59 offensive and 69 defensive boards. Jazion Jackson has a season-high 46 assists and 22 steals.
UNT will play at UTEP on Thursday before making its way to the Convo.
Last Meeting
This matchup marks the 24th time UTSA has faced off against Rice. The Owls lead the series 13-10 after a 69-57 win against the Roadrunners on Jan. 2, 2021.
The Mean Green lead the series 18-11 against UTSA after 29 matchups in program history. North Texas is on a four-game win streak after a 76-52 win on Jan. 9, 2021.
