UTSA sweeps Green Bay in home opener

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team recorded two home runs and six hits to sweep Green Bay 5-0 Wednesday night at Roadrunner field.
 
The Roadrunners were on the board early with a run in the first. Kat Ibarra opened the game with a walk. With two outs, Ibarra stole second, then reached third on the throw. Marena Estell followed with a walk. Erykah Guerrero singled to right field and advanced to second on the throw as runners advanced and Ibarra scored to lead 1-0.
 
In the third, Ibarra once again opened the inning with a bang, recording a triple to center field to reach scoring position. With one out, Riley Grunberg grounded out to the shortstop and Ibarra scored once again.
 
UTSA added another run in the fourth with a solo home run from Guerrero to lead 3-0.
 
Freshman Camryn Robillard clinched the win in the fifth. Ibarra earned another walk to open the inning and Robillard followed with a home run to center field to help the Roadrunners lead 5-0.
 
Marena Estell earned the win, pitching all seven innings and recording four strikeouts.
 
The Roadrunners return to the field on Friday at the Cardinal Invitational.
