Roadrunners in third place after opening round of Tulane Classic

NEW ORLEANS — Hannah Holzmann is tied for sixth place and the UTSA women's golf team is in third after the opening round of the Tulane Classic on Sunday at English Turn Golf and Country Club (par 72/6,178 yards).

Holzmann fired a 4-over-par 76 to help lead the Roadrunners to a 311, one shot ahead of Texas State and three behind No. 10 Michigan in the 17-team field led by North Texas (300).

Holzmann, a senior all-conference performer from San Antonio, registered five birdies during her first round including three as part of a 1-under 35 on the front nine. She stands five shots off the 1-under par pace set by Texas State's Marine Griffaut.

Camryn Carreon and Nicole Polivchak each carded a 77 and are part of a six-way tie for 17th. Carreon, an all-conference selection from San Antonio, had a birdie on the 516-yard, par-5 second hole to highlight her opening 18 holes. Polivchak, a super senior, wrote down three birdies during a five-hole stretch on the front nine to headline her opening day.

Ana Gonzalez provided the other counting score for UTSA, as the super senior had a pair of birdies and shot a 79 that has the four-time all-conference pick tied for 23rd in the 93-person field.

Hunter Nugent rounds out the lineup in a tie for 36th (81).

The second round is scheduled for Tuesday.
