Coyotes clinch win over Roadrunners in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UTSA softball dropped a 4-3 decision to South Dakota Sunday afternoon.
 
The game remained scoreless until the third inning.
 
The Coyotes were on the board first with a three-run homer in the third to take an early lead.
 
The Roadrunners retaliated in the fifth. With one out, Ciarra Mata earned a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch to reach scoring position. Camryn Robillard also earned a walk with two outs on the board. Riley Grunberg stepped up and hit a home run to center field to score Mata and Robillard and tie the game 3-3. In the bottom of the frame, South Dakota scored another run to regain the lead, 4-3.
 
Jamie Gilbert earned the start, pitching 3.0 innings allowing just two hits and had three strikeouts. Marena Estell came in for the final three innings and recorded three strikeouts as well.
 
The Roadrunners return to the field on Wednesday when they host Green Bay for home opener. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
