HOUSTON – The UTSA softball team went 0-2 Friday afternoon on day one of the Houston Invitational.
Game One: Texas Tech
The Roadrunners were swept in a five-inning 8-0 decision to Tech.
The Red Raiders were on the board early with a run at the bottom of the first. Tech added three runs to their lead with a triple RBI home run in the second. Another home run to left center from Texas Tech increased their lead to 4-0 in the third. Continuing to build their lead, a bottom of the fourth home run gave a 5-0 advantage to the Red Raiders while the Roadrunners remained scoreless. A final two home run fifth inning saw Tech close the game with an 8-0 advantage.
Taylor Medina recorded the only UTSA hit of the game. Marena Estell pitched 2.1 innings before Jamie Gilbert came in to close the final two innings of play.
Game Two: Houston
The Roadrunners dropped a 13-1 decision to Houston Friday night.
The Cougars gained an early lead with a three-run homer in the first. Houston added six more runs in the second from a single, a three-run homer and a solo home run to lead 9-0. In the third, the Cougars recorded two more unearned runs to contribute to their lead. A single from the Cougars advantaged them to a 13-0 lead.
At the top of the fifth, a home run to left center from Kat Ibarra gave UTSA their only score of the day. Ibarra recorded the Roadrunners' two hits of the game.
Tatum Seith started in the circle for UTSA, pitching 1.2 innings. Alexa Williams relieved Seith for the final 2.1 innings.
The Roadrunners will return to action Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. to face Tech and Houston, respectively.
