SAN ANTONIO – Jordan Ivy-Curry had 22 points and Jacob Germany registered his third double-double of the year with 17 points and 13 rebounds but Louisiana Tech sank 14 3-pointers in a 79-63 win over UTSA men's basketball, on Saturday evening at the Convocation Center.
UTSA (7-9, 0-3 Conference USA) couldn't overcome a hot-shooting night from Louisiana Tech (13-3, 4-0 C-USA), who got 12 points, 16 rebounds and five assists Kenneth Lofton Jr. and a 31-point outburst from Amorie Archibald.
The Bulldogs built on a 14-point halftime lead and took the lead beyond 20 in the opening minutes of the final stanza. Louisiana Tech shot 48 percent from the field and was 14 of 27 from deep, including a 6 of 6 game from 3-point range from Archibald, who was 12 of 14 from the field, and five made triples from Cobe Williams.
Ivy-Curry, a native of La Marque, Texas, had 22 points and three rebounds to lead the Roadrunners.
Germany chipped in his third double-double of the year and the ninth of his career. He had 17 points and a season-high 13 rebounds.
Freshman Lamin Sabally finished with 10 points, with Darius McNeill adding seven points, three rebounds and an assist. Sabally made a pair of 3-pointers and has made 6 of 7 3-point attempts over his last two games.
The Roadrunners shot 42 percent and was 5 of 17 from deep in the loss. UTSA owned a 41-32 margin in total rebounds and a 13-7 mark in offensive boards.
UTSA will return to action on Thursday, facing Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+ and Ticket 760 AM.
Louisiana Tech opened the scoring with the first eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers from Williams, before UTSA rallied to score seven straight, including free throws from Germany, a paint bucket from Germany and a wing 3-pointer from Cedrick Alley Jr. Williams sank his third 3-pointer of the game to snap the UTSA streak and LA Tech took the lead to 13-7 at the first media timeout.
Germany cut the lead to four with a foul-line jumper and Lamin Sabally sunk a transition 3-pointer to narrow the LA Tech lead to 13-12. Ivy-Curry gave UTSA a 14-13 lead before a 3-pointer from the Bulldogs and then followed that with a elbow jumper. The Bulldogs then ripped off seven straight points to take a 23-16 lead.
Ivy-Curry hit a pair of shots to cut the lead to 26-20 before a fourth Williams 3-pointer stretched the lead to 29-20. Germany hit one to narrow it to 29-22 before four straight from the Bulldogs forced a timeout from UTSA's Steve Henson. The lead grew to 13 before a fadeaway jumper from Ivy-Curry. The Bulldogs scored four straight to take a 15-point lead into the half. UTSA shot 33 percent in the first half, getting nine points from Ivy-Curry, while LA Tech shot 50 percent, with 14 points from Amorie Archibald.
The lead grew to 21 in the opening minutes of the second half as the Bulldogs pulled away from the Roadrunners to secure the win.
