SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team recorded their first win of the 2022 season with a 4-3 victory over Sam Houston Sunday afternoon.
"It was a good win today at home," head coach Ki Kroll said. "Overall, the ladies came out and did a good job executing. There is still a lot to improve, but we will get back to practice and keep working. We are looking forward to a competitive week on the road."
The Bearkats claimed the No. 3 doubles match before the Roadrunners had back-to-back victories to claim the doubles point. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Alexandra Weir swept their opponent in a 6-0 match at No. 1. Jasmin Starr and Sophie Omoworare secured the point for UTSA at No. 2 with a 6-4 defeat of their opponent.
The Bearkats won the first point in singles, but the Roadrunners swept the following three sets to push them ahead 4-0. At No. 2, Starr defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-2. Zlatarova won her match at No. 1 in a two-set win, 6-2, 6-4. Weir followed with a 7-6 tiebreaking first set and a 6-3 second set win at No. 3. Sam Houston won the final two sets to conclude the match 4-3.
The Roadrunners will be back on the court on Friday, Feb. 4 at 2:30 p.m. to face TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
