SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
"The team fought hard, but we will need to learn from this one," head coach Ki Kroll said. "We have two opportunities next week to do better and keep improving."
The Roadrunners won the first doubles point to start. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Alexandra Weir won their match 6-1 at No. 1 before the Wildcats claimed the next two matches at No. 2 and 3 to garner the doubles point.
In singles, Zlatarova topped her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1. Jasmin Starr followed suit, winning her match 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 to put UTSA ahead 2-1. Weir defeated her opponent at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0. Eva Beyebach split the first two sets of her match at No. 4, 6-4, 2-6, but was unable to claim the third, 4-6. The Wildcats claimed the final two matches at No. 5 and 6 to win the match 4-3.
The Roadrunners will travel to Corpus Christi to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Jan. 28 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
