Roadrunners ready for Texas Aggie Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will make their second straight trip to College Station to compete in the Texas Aggie Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

The Roadrunners are slated to line up against athletes from Houston Baptist, New Mexico Junior College, New Orleans, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, San Diego State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M and UT Arlington. Action gets underway with field events at noon followed by running events beginning at 1:30 p.m.

This will mark the second meet of the indoor season for UTSA, which claimed five gold medals at the Ted Nelson Invitational last weekend in Aggieland.

The UTSA men finished first in four events, headlined by Bashiru Abdullahi's win in the 60-meter hurdles. His clocking of 7.87 seconds earned him Conference USA Indoor Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors for the sixth time in his career.

Meanwhile, Sam Healy leaped to gold in the long jump with a mark of 7.48 meters (24-6.5), vaulting him into the No. 4 spot on the program's all-time performers list.

Jemuel Miller made it a sweep of the horizontal jumps for the Roadrunners, taking top honors in the triple jump in his UTSA debut with a measurement of 15.43m (50-7.5), good for fourth on the school's all-time performers chart.

Diego Pettorossi clocked a time of 21.35 to place first among collegiate competitors and log the second-fastest time of the day behind unattached Lance Broome's 21.03 in the 200m. The Bologna, Italy, native now stands as UTSA's No. 3 all-time performer in the deuce.

Acacia Astwood claimed the lone gold for the women with a win in the weight throw. The transfer from UNLV measured 18.23m (59-9.75) to beat the field by nearly four feet and jump into fourth on UTSA's career performers list.

Ingeborg Gruenwald posted the 10th-best long jump in the nation with a leap of 6.18m (20-3.5) to place second and earn C-USA Indoor Women's Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time as a Roadrunner.
