SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women's basketball team begins their two-game series with UTEP Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners will then travel to El Paso to face the Miners at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.
The Roadrunners return home to the Convocation Center 4-12 overall and 1-4 in conference after a 79-64 loss to LA Tech on Jan. 17. The Lady Techsters gained an early lead, setting the tone for the game. Charlene Mass led in points with 16, followed by Queen Ulabo with 15. Elena Blanding led UTSA with six boards.
Lapraisjah Johnson continues to lead the Roadrunners in scoring with 153 points, averaging 9.6 points per game. Elena Blanding leads the team in the paint with 88 rebounds this season, 61 defensive and 27 offensive. Fueling the Roadrunners' offense, Jadyn Pimentel leads with 39 assists and 45 steals. Elyssa Coleman contributes a team-high 12 blocks this season.
Scouting UTEP
The Miners come to the Alamo City 10-5 overall and 2-3 in C-USA play this season following a 55-49 loss to Southern Miss on Jan. 17.
Katia Gallegos leads UTEP in scoring with 192 points this season, averaging 12.8 per game. Gallegos leads the Miners with 52 assists and 30 steals. Elina Arike leads in the paint with 89 rebounds this season, tallying 39 offensive and 50 defensive. Arike has recorded a team-leading five blocks.
Last Meeting
This matchup marks the 38th time the two teams have faced each other. The Roadrunners lead the series 22-15. UTEP is on a six-game win streak after a 67-51 win on Jan. 20, 2021.
