Roadrunners topped by Lady Techsters in Ruston

RUSTON, La. – The UTSA women's basketball team was topped 79-64 by Louisiana Tech Monday afternoon at the Thomas Assembly Center.
 
The Roadrunners couldn't overcome an early lead from the Lady Techsters, who outscored UTSA  a 26-12 in the first quarter.
 
Louisiana Tech was off to a hot start, opening with a 12-5 run by the 5:24 mark. Lapraisjah Johnson broke the scoring drought with a free throw as UTSA trailed 12-6 with 4:39 remaining. The Lady Techsters continued to hit short scoring runs to lead 26-12 after the first.
 
In the second, the Lady Techsters opened with five consecutive points to extend the lead, 31-12. The Roadrunners then went on a 14-5 run to bridge the gap to 10 (36-26) with 3:02 remaining. In the final three minutes, LA Tech hit a 9-4 run to lead 45-30 at the half.
 
Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Techsters kept the momentum going as they opened with a 9-2 scoring surge to lead 54-32 by the 6:08 mark. In the second half of the quarter, the teams battled to find the basket as the Lady Techsters just outscored the Roadrunners 8-7 to lead 62-39 going to the fourth.
 
LA Tech went on a 4-0 run to start the final 10 minutes of the game. Two free throws from Queen Ulabo broke the streak, until a 6-0 run from the Lady Techsters extended the lead once again (72-41). The Roadrunners hit multiple scoring runs throughout the quarter to close the gap, including ending on an 8-0 run, but it wasn't enough to catch up to LA Tech.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday when they host UTEP at 7 p.m.

  • Starters: Elena Blanding, Queen Ulabo, Charlene Mass, Lapraisjah Johnson, Chantel Govan
  • Charlene Mass led the team with 16 points and Queen Ulabo was right behind with 15
