SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's basketball will return to action on Saturday, traveling to face Charlotte at 12 p.m. CT at Halton Arena in a game broadcast live on ESPN+ and Ticket 760 AM.
UTSA (7-10, 0-4 Conference USA) comes into the second of a three-game road swing having lost an 83-51 setback at Old Dominion on Thursday night. The Roadrunners saw the Monarchs shoot 61.8 percent from the field to post the win over UTSA, who was led by a career-best 16-point outing from Erik Czumbel.
The Roadrunners averaged 68.4 points, 40 rebounds, 11.1 assists, 5.9 steals and 2.8 blocks per game. UTSA is shooting 38.6 percent as a team and 28.4 percent from 3-point range, while opponents are shooting 45.5 percent and 35.5 percent from distance.
UTSA is led in scoring by sophomore guard Jordan Ivy-Curry, who owns 15.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Junior center Jacob Germany averages 14.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Senior guard Darius McNeill averages 4.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. Junior guard/forward Aleu Aleu adds 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Charlotte (8-5, 1-0 C-USA) is coming off a win over UTEP in the Queen City on Thursday night, 66-53. The 49ers have won three straight games, including wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Western Carolina. The 49ers had three games postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, not playing between Dec. 22 and Thursday.
The 49ers average 72.5 points, 31.8 rebounds, 14.2 assists, 5.5 steals and 2.7 blocks per game as a team, shooting 47.4 percent and 35.6 percent from range. Opponents are shooting 46.3 percent as a team and 34.7 percent from 3-point distance.
Dynamic guard Jahmir Young leads the team with 19.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Austin Butler chips in 12.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Clyde Trapp sports 11 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Robert Braswell averages 9.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game, while Aly Khalifa sports 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
UTSA leads the all-time series with Charlotte 4-3 and the 49ers own a 2-1 mark in games played in in the Queen City. UTSA won the meeting last year in the first round of the C-USA Championships in Frisco, Texas, which featured 20 points and six boards from Keaton Wallace, 18 points and nine rebounds from Jhivvan Jackson and a 16 point, 10-rebound game from Jacob Germany. UTSA shot 45.3 percent in the win, holding the 49ers to 31.5 percent from the field. Jordan Shepherd had 20 points, while Jahmir Young went for 19 points and four boards.
