SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team is set to compete in the ASU Classic Dec. 4-5 in Tempe, Ariz.
The Roadrunners will play Arizona State Saturday at 2 p.m. and Colorado State on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Desert Financial Arena.
Recapping Minnesota
The Roadrunners head west after a 52-81 loss against B1G opponent Minnesota. After a 7-0 lead in the first quarter from the Roadrunners, the Golden Gophers went on a huge run to lead at the half and the remainder of the game.
LaPraisjah Johnson was one rebound shy of a double-double, leading the team with 15 points and nine rebounds. She was nine of 10 from the free throw line and tallied two assists. Jadyn Pimentel and Elyssa Coleman followed with eight points and four rebounds each. Queen Ulabo helped with six rebounds, leading the team with 38 on the season.
Scouting Arizona State
Arizona State comes into the matchup 3-4 on the season after a 1-2 performance at the 2021 Cancun Challenge. The Sun Devils dropped decisions to Houston, 60-68, and Baylor, 52-62, before clenching a 58-43 win over Fordham.
Jade Loville leads the team in points this season with 87. Mael Gilles leads the Sun Devils with 58 boards.
Scouting Colorado State
The Rams will face the Roadrunners after a matchup against Harvard Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rams come to the Classic after a 56-71 loss to Louisville.
Colorado State's scoring is led by McKenna Hofschild, who has recorded 80 points this season, shooting a .409 field goal percentage. She has recorded 19 rebounds and leads the Rams with 30 assists. Karly Murphy leads the team in the paint with 54 rebounds.
Last Meeting
Against Arizona State: This is the fifth time in program history the two teams are competing against each other. Arizona State leads the series 4-0. The last time the Roadrunners faced the Sun Devils was Nov. 12, 2017, when Arizona State topped UTSA 74-42.
Against Colorado State: The two teams are tied 2-2 in the all-time meeting series. The last time the UTSA faced the Rams was Dec. 29, 2008, where the Roadrunners defeated Colorado State in a 29-point victory, 73-44.
