SAN ANTONIO – UTSA head soccer coach Derek Pittman has announced the addition of three Texas newcomers to the 2022 class. Transfers Avery Chaney (TTU) and Mia Krusinski (FGCU) will join the Roadrunners this spring along with high school recruit Victoria Arenivas starting next fall.

After a historic season in our program's history, we knew that we had to add a few special pieces to strengthen our squad for next year and we have done just that. Vic, Avery and Mia are tremendous, strong competitors of high character and talent. All three are Texas players and we feel they will help us continue taking steps toward our goal of competing for conference championships. We are happy to add them to our already strong lineup for 2022."
Avery Chaney
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas
High School: Brandeis High School
Club Team: Classics Elite/Lonestar SC
Previous School: Texas Tech University
Quoting Coach: "We are elated to add Avery to our roster for this spring. As a talented hometown San Antonio kid, we believe she will come in and strengthen our midfield immediately. Avery can do it all. She has tremendous experience from her time with a top-level program at Texas Tech, and her abilities as a player are of the highest quality. She is a high level player and a tenacious competitor. She can pass, dribble and she possesses a high IQ for the game. She can also finish in and around the box. Her work ethic and drive to be a top player will fit in well with our team's culture."
About Avery: She was a two-year letter winner at Brandeis High in San Antonio, where she was a First Team All-District and All-Region selection. At the club level, she played with Lonestar SC in Austin before finishing her club career with Classics Elite under Dennis Chavarria, where she earned a U14 National Team call-up in 2016. She spent two seasons with Texas Tech, logging 312 minutes of total playing time across 13 matches with three starts. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Mia Krusinski
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Dallas, Texas
High School: Ursuline Academy of Dallas
Club Team: Sting Dallas
Previous School: Florida Gulf Coast University
Quoting Coach: "As a coaching staff we are always chasing and when presented with the opportunity to bring in a top-caliber goalkeeper like Mia, we absolutely jumped at it. Mia has a big presence in goal and is a quality leader behind her backline. She is a top-notch shot-stopper and has competed against some of the top teams in the nation. Mia will be able to compete for time this spring as we prepare to be even better defensively for next fall."
About Mia: She was a two-time Texas state champion (2017-18) and a three-time ECNL Texas Conference Champion (2017-19). In 2019 she was an ECNL National Semifinalist. Played for Sting Dallas under coaches Tatu Pecorari and Wes Larry. Started and played every minute of all 12 games as a true freshman in the spring 2021 season at FGCU where she recorded 37 saves. She was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team and led the conference with a .822 save percentage in her freshman campaign. Also during her freshman year, she was awarded ASUN Defensive Player of the Week two times (Feb. 9 and Feb. 16). During her second season with the Eagles, Mia played in four contests, starting three of them. Mia has three years of eligibility remaining.
Victoria Arenivas
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Humble, Texas
High School: Atascocita High School
Club Team: Challenge (Houston)
Quoting Coach: "Vic is an extremely tough, hard-nosed competitor that has played at a high level nationally in the ECNL for Challenge SC out of Houston. She is a hardworking midfielder that has a wide range of passing abilities and is tough in a tackle. With a high tactical understanding of the game and championship mentality, she will be a great addition to our team environment."
About Victoria: Was a four-year letterman in high school, wherein her freshman year she was tabbed as the Freshman Newcomer of the Year. Earned First-Team All-District on three separate occasions. Also earned Academic All-District and was named a team captain. Victoria helped lead her high school squad to the playoffs in each of her four seasons. In 2018 she was selected to participate in ECNL PDP Texas.
