SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team will play a schedule of 20 matches, including eight home tests, as part of its 2022 schedule, released on Wednesday by third-year head coach Sergey Avdeyev.
The Roadrunners will play eight matches at the UTSA Tennis Complex and will have eight road matches, along with three neutral site matches in 2022.
The season will open on Jan. 14 against Texas taking place at the Texas Tennis Center. UTSA will then host its home opener versus University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 16 at 12 p.m. followed by a week break before another home match against UTRGV on Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.
UTSA then travels to the west coast for a two-day swing as UCSB with the first match vs. UCSB (Feb. 5) on its home court followed by a match against Pacific on UCSB's court (Feb. 6).
The Roadrunners will then come home to host back-to-back home matches to face UT Arlington on Feb. 26 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 2.
Back on the road, UTSA travels to the west central region of Texas to face Abilene Christian (March 5) followed by Texas Tech the next day (March 6). The Roadrunners then are back home to compete against Charlotte on March 12 at 1 p.m. to follow with SMU the day after at 10 a.m.
UTSA then journeys to Florida to contest against FAU (March 17) and stays at FAU to go against Cleveland State (March 18).
Still on the road, the Roadrunners go on a three-day Virginia tour as they face Old Dominion on their home court (April 1), William and Mary on their yard (April 2), and VCU in Richmond, Va., (April 3).
For its last home match, UTSA will face league-foe Rice on April 9 at 11 a.m. before their regular-season finale on April 15 in Beaumont, Texas, to compete against Lamar at 11 a.m.
The Conference USA Championship are scheduled for April 22-24 in Norfolk, Va.
2021 season highlights:
- Three C-USA All-Conference awards.
- Four C-USA Player of the Week awards.
- Beat No. 40 Tulsa on the road – it was the highest ranked win in at least seven years.
- Totaled a 59-36 (.621) mark in singles and a 32-17 (.653) record in doubles as a team.
- UTSA's winning percentage in singles is the top in program history – edging the 81-51 (.613) mark from the 2005 season.
- In doubles, UTSA's .653 winning percentage is the second-best in program history, just shy of a 41-19 (.683) record in 2015.
