Duplessis earns spot on CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

AUSTIN, Texas — UTSA senior Hunter Duplessis has been named to the 2021 Academic All-America® Division I football team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Duplessis earned a spot as the kicker on the second team to join Nate Leonard (2013, 2014) as the only football student-athletes in the program's 11-year history to be honored as an Academic All-American. His award gives UTSA 21 all-time CoSIDA Academic All- America® certificates and he is the first Roadrunner since Bailee Baldwin made the second team for softball in 2018 and 2019.

The reigning Conference USA Football Scholar Athlete of the Year and a two-time C-USA All-Academic Team honoree, Duplessis advanced to CoSIDA Academic All-America® status after being voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® VII First Team in November for the second time.

Duplessis carries a 4.0 GPA as an MBA student focusing on technology management after graduating in May 2020 with a 3.78 GPA as a double major in cyber security and information systems. He is a five-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member, a four-time UTSA President's List honoree and a C-USA Academic Medal recipient.

On the field, Duplessis garnered first-team all-conference accolades for the second consecutive year earlier this month. A three-time C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week honoree, he has set UTSA single-season records with 23 field goals and 60 extra points in 2021, helping lead the No. 24 Roadrunners to a 12-1 record and the program's first conference championship. He has drilled three field goals in a game four times and has connected from a career-long distance of 51 yards in wins over UTEP and UAB. He also kicked the game-winning 42-yard field goal in the 31-28 comeback win over Memphis.

UTSA will face San Diego State in the Tropical Smoothie Café Frisco Bowl next Tuesday, Dec. 21. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Toyota Stadium and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
