SAN ANTONIO – Queen Ulabo and Jadyn Pimentel combined for 25 points as UTSA defeated Dartmouth 49-39 Monday evening at the Convocation Center.
Dartmouth opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers to gain an early 6-0 advantage. The Roadrunners retaliated and hit a 6-0 run to tie the game 6-6 at the 5:16 mark. UTSA then hit another 6-0 run to gain a four point lead (12-8). The Big Green scored three more points to close the gap to one (12-11), but a layup from Elena Blanding helped the Roadrunners lead 14-11 after the first.
Jadyn Pimentel opened the second with a layup as UTSA led 16-11. Dartmouth then went on a 7-0 run to take the lead (18-16), but Pimentel scored once again to tie the game 18-18 with 5:18 remaining. The Roadrunners closed out the quarter on an 8-2 scoring surge to lead 26-21 at the break.
UTSA came out of the locker room on a 6-2 run to extend the lead to nine (32-23). For the next few minutes, it was a battle for the ball as the Roadrunners just outscored the Big Green 10-9 to lead 36-30 with 3:36 remaining. UTSA finished on a 5-2 run to lead 41-32 going to the fourth.
The final 10 minutes were slow as both teams hit scoring droughts and struggled to score, but the Roadrunners held onto the lead to claim the win.
UTSA returns to the court this weekend for the UTRGV South Padre Island Classic.
