UTSA falls to Rice

HOUSTON - The UTSA volleyball team fell to Rice 3-0 Friday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse.
 
The Owls took an early 3-0 run and did not let up. Service errors from the Owls allowed the Roadrunners to come within five (10-5), but 5-0 and 6-2 runs from the Owls clinched the first set (25-13).
 
In the second, the Roadrunners jumped ahead early with a 3-1 run. Keeping the Owls within two, UTSA stayed ahead for the first part of the second set until the Owls tied the set at 9-9. The Owls took the lead and did not relinquish. A 4-0 run gave the Owls a 16-11 lead before the Roadrunners chipped away with short runs (24-19). A final kill from the Owls closed the second 25-19.
 
The Roadrunners gained an early 3-0 lead in the third but were unable to hold on. After the Owls tied the set at 7-7, a 7-0 run increased the lead (13-7). Another 4-0 run and a final 5-0 scoring boost (25-11) gave the Owls the momentum to clinch the match.
 
The Roadrunners and the Owls return to the court tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.

  • UTSA is now 8-15 overall and 5-6 in conference.
  • Bianca Ejesieme led the team in kills with seven.
  • Courtney Walters had 16 assists.
  • Mia Perales posted 10 digs.
